Human Nature...and other Oxymorons

It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others.
Sounds deep, right?
I'd love to take credit for such insightfulness...however, I didn't say it; His Holiness, Dalai Lama did. But, I have considered that notion for quite some time. Now, it's your turn. Do you agree or disagree? As always, it will not be good enough to simply say, "I agree" or "I disagree" and move on. Support your response with details and rationales. There is no wrong answer.
Along those lines, I would also like you to consider the following: Are people inherently good, or inherently bad? Talk a little bit about the nature of humans...and, as always, support your response.

There should be a greater good but sometimes its never reached. I agree that everyone should act on the greatest good for the economy and including yourself but their usually obstacle to overcome this power. Some people don't care if they are hurting anyone with their own issue because they don't even care about themselves if they are acting bad.It isn't hard to decide if you are good or bad. people are suppose to be born with morality. Some individuals are moral to their vaules of acting as a respectful person. then there are immoral people who beleive they are acting on the better good but not. even worse then that some indivduals are amoral who don't care what the values are. it would be hard for those people who are immoral and amoral to believe in the potential to do good but if someone who acts moral or ethics then they do have potential to succeed. If everyone could act out" the golden rule" their would never be any issues.when you are born you are not born with the knowledge of good or bad, the infant musat relay on their parents to teach them right. If you were raised on a family that care and show love to one another and kindness to anyone then that person has a chance to grow up with the thought to act like that with the greater good in their mind. But if you were born into a home with hatred as their passion that you could have a good chance to end up as their peers are. Although they might have been born into a home with hatred thery still have the mind power to behave and live to be good it all depends on the person. So its up to you to decide what you will be and i have decided to live as good as i possibly can but sometime mistakes are allowed just forgiveness should come next.

There is good and bad everywhere in the world, its a matter of channeling it yourself. When a person forgets how to hate and just loves, then there is endless potential for oneself and others. Although our world seems like a bad place sometimes, it is just as good if your doing the right thing. No person is born good or bad, its the environment they belong to and whether or not they stand up and do what is right compared to what is wrong. To do right by oneself and others is the beneficial thing to do. "Do to others as you want done for you". The right choices will do a person good because they will have a positive self image and positive outlook towards people and the future and its possibilities. If a person does negative things and reflects back on the wrong choices they made, it will lead them to feel remorseful, as if they were a bad person. Some people dont have a conscious and they can do wrong day by day, but somewhere in their life they did somthing right. To be a good person you need steady guidance and motivation for the right things. When you learn that love make the world go round I would consider that person to have good intentions. The nature of humans is differant for everyone in my eyes. Where we live, the money we have, and the people we look up to all influence a persons nature. The way they are raised and their family religion are a major factor too. I think that when violence or divorce or burden enters a family, they see the bad in a lot of things. I beleive you have to let go of the past to form a base for the future, and use that as motivation to do better and avoid the same problems. If a person lives in fear they wont leave their shell and ultimatley see the world as a beautiful place. The key to being a good person is accepting everything for what it is and provide yourself with the satisfication you deserve, because you can always do better, and be better; its a matter of how much you put into it.

I'd have to say I agree, but I also disagree. Human's, to you and I, are common creatures, but if you really look inside them all, our population is as jumbled up as it gets. Every single person walking our Earth is different then the next, no two minds think completely alike, so there for it's hard to qualify such a question with a simple "yes/no" answer. I personally think people are generally born "good", if you must, a clean slate. With the passing years of your life and the knowledge you gain determines what kind of a person you become. Depending on how you react to a matter, tells me if you're a good or "bad" person. For example, one could be born into a wealthy, well mannered family and turn out to be a serial killer, while someone born to the world into a family full of abuse and neglect could turn out to be the President of the United States, it all depends on how your head and your heart handle situations. Every human is born with the opportunity to lead a beautiful life; it all depends on what you make it. Some people though, are not as strong as those who make life the best it can be no matter what the circumstance. Others, if born into a negative environment, follow through with their parent’s/guardian’s traits, and carry on the adverse life style for the rest of their life because it’s just how they were raised. Human nature is an odd thing, I personally feel we’re all 100% completely different, and we all have to power to make of our lives what we want, good or bad, it all depends on how your mind ticks.

Everyone in the world is both good and bad. Whether it is intentional or accidental, at one time or another, a person will exhibit both good and bad traits because everyone’s definition of good and bad is different. The nature of human beings is usually to look out first for yourself. You need to keep yourself above water before you can save another from drowning. Unfortunately, it is also human nature to bring down others to bring yourself to the top. Survival is key and the concept of survival of the fittest plays a big part in understanding why humans act like they do. I also believe that the nature of humans has a lot to do with the environment that they are surrounded in. People are not born good and bad. But who is to say what good and bad is? Doing well sometimes is something that is very hard to do, especially when you are placed in hard circumstances. I agree with Dalai Lama when he says, “It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others.” That is true. I feel I have great potential for doing good. I believe that the family I grew up in and the environment I live in plays a big role in obtaining that potential. My family has always told me to strive for better. They have set good morals for me and showed me what they believe is the right way to live. I agree with what they have showed me. The way I act, reason, and portray myself is all impacted from my surroundings and everyday strive to become better. It is a growing experience that every human has to go through. On that journey, you need to witness bad to be able to identify good. I have come to the point in my life where I can identify the two and now it is the time to work on becoming the best of my potential for myself and others.

I agree that there is always potential for a human to do good for himself and others, but I also believe that it's a personal choice. Along with morals and character built up as a person grows. These morals and character traits aren't necessarily taught by parents, or teachers, they can be observed. For example, someone who has lived on the streets most of their life has the ability to watch other humans interact on a daily basis in both a good and bad mannor. But he/she of all people might have the power to improve the quality of life more then another person, because they have watched how people relate and think. I don't believe that people are inherently good or bad, mostly because our behavior is taught and not natural. Everyone has different opinions, different reactions, different lives, and we each take something from that and incorperate it with what we learn other places such as school. I believe that as a person grows they try to make their own decisions and as they make mistakes it turns into a domino effect, one that could cost a life or just break a mothers favorite vase. I don't believe there is a bad or a good, I just think that there are so many people on this earth that one simple mistake can be fatal.

Today in military history Mr. Glenn spoke about the possibility of an absolute free state versus an absolute secure state. (Yes Bunje I am connecting military history to your class.) Well what he said was if we were to live in a free state our lives would be short and hard, because people wouldn’t be all about rainbows and lollipops. Instead we’d all be in complete danger all the time. Therefore people are inherently bad. If people were good a free state would be possible. Laws also govern are lives, if we were all good inherently so the need for laws would not exist. It makes perfect sense I just wish I knew why we’re that way?
Why do we live in fear of terrorism and violence. You can’t let your kids play outside with out being concerned about rapist and kidnappers. What causes the human race to be that way? Is it genetic? Are we born bad?
Focusing on the quote, doing good may always be the right thing to do but not always is that the easiest, especially since we’re inherently bad. I find that it’s even harder to do when no one else is being good. With that said we do all have this potential but we all do not have the strength to unleash this potential.
There are levels of doing good. For instance taking drugs and drinking alcohol or giving a hundred percent in school. Just because someone doesn’t get the best grades does not mean they aren’t smart it just means they do not have the drive to unleash their potential. School work shows exactly what I said when I talked about people not using their full potential to do good. You see the honors kids, obviously full potentialers, and the kids who sleep during class or just simply don’t show up, the ones who stifle their potential.
But its goes outside the classroom. Everyday we have the chance to unveil our potential to do good and every time we let that chance slip are light begins to dim until one day your Hitler killing off an entire race.

I believe that people end up the way that they are raised to be. If a kid is liveing in a nice house hold with loveing parents then a good life is to come for that person. If they house hold is in bad shape and the parents are not loveing or caring, the kid has a higher chance of comeing out with that bad mind set and become a "bad person". Then again there is always the type of people who hate the whole loveing and careing family and want to be alone in their own world. What makes the people "bad" is an event that happens to them that push it over the edge. Or like people who just wanted to be loved by their parents and noticed, but they are stuck as the third child or the kid after the golden one and never recieves any love from parents. You have some crazy people who just set off like a time bombs and just go on a rampage and kill people. Sometimes its on rejections, like the guy from Virginia tech who went on the rampage shooting people, all because there was a problem with him and his girlfriend. There are crazy people out in the world, but none are born that way. Everyone is made into what they become.

I have to say that I personally agree with this quote. You can only become what you strive yourself to be. I believe that you are your own worst critic. Every person is different from the next. No two people on this earth are exactly alike and each person can only be as “good” as they want to be. No one can force you to do something that is against your will. Every person is born with a clean slate and the ability to do with it as they please. Yes, of course there are always influences on to what type of person you become. Certain parents may be stricter than the next. While the way you are raised does play a role that does not completely mold who you become. Just because a person was not raised in the best home environment or brought up with the greatest set of morals does not mean that they can not be a great person on the inside and on the outside. If you have the strength and will to do great things and you set your mind to doing it than you can. I strongly believe in setting your mind on something and doing anything to get to it. I don’t believe that people are inherently good or bad. You are what you create yourself to be. Human nature plays a huge role in the way some people act. There is a great deal of pressure to be a certain way in this world and some people fell that if they do not accomplish this goal then they have failed at life. But, this is completely not true. Whatever you become and do with your life as long as you are happy with it, than you have succeed and done “good” with your life.

The Dalai Lama is a very holy and insightful person and his words of wisdom have influenced many people, including myself. I think his one quote about the how “under the greatest adversity exists the greatest potential for doing good, for oneself and others” is very agreeable. It can be widely accepted by people that everyone wants to do good for themselves and try to reach a great potential in order to benefit oneself. It wouldn’t be human nature if someone wanted the worst for his/herself. Some people thrive for greater potential to do good for his/herself more strongly than others and it could be minimal for others, such as in shy or modest people. It’s human nature to have the best and to do things inherently good for oneself. Lots of people have the greatest potential to do good for others as well. There are charities, organizations, fundraisers, and benefits that are hosted all around the world and are started up by people who want to do good for others. They know that by creating awareness to the community by organizing these events that it’ll bring a greater potential to those who are in need. It makes people feel good about themselves that they are doing this for others and overall, creates a good-feel around the community. Some people just are inherently good when they think about others and it can rub off on others on some occasions. Although there are some people out there who don’t care about anyone else and are self-involved, they still have that greater potential to make their selves better than those who they don’t care about. They strive to be better and it’s almost like a competition between everyone, whether it’s who can bring the most awareness and do the most good for others or who can be the best. Either way, they all still have that greater potential for doing good. The main instinct of how people develop and survive is their need for personal growth, and with that, comes with doing good for oneself or others. As leader of a country, the Dalai Lama sees this potential in everyone he observes or meets. It’s evident that it exists under the greatest adversity and give life competition and survival elements that helped develop life as we know it.

When a baby is born, a new life is beginning. That child is innocent and pure at heart from the madness that is in the world around them. Dalai Lama said that the greatest potential for doing good exists in everyone and I agree.
We are all born as those innocent babies that have not yet experienced the world and its many hardships. Inside each and everyone of us lies that goodness in our hearts, our human nature, but its up to us to find it and use it not only for ourselves but for the people around us. I believe that what makes some bad people is the experiences and challenges they face in the world. The people around us are the ones that take the goodness out of our hearts that we are born with. Whether its because of the way someone was raised or because something traumatizing happened to them, people get affected and changed their behavior towards themselves and others based on the lives they live. They change from being good people and being kind to others to being bad people and not caring about who they hurt. The difference between being a good person and a bad person relies solely on our choices of either being good or bad. I have to admit that there are some truly bad people in the world but I do not believe that it is because they were born that way or that being bad was just in their blood. There are so many things around us that can either help make us better people or bad people. Its human nature to have the potential to do good and be a good person for ourselves and for others because we are all inherently good in the beginning. It is also human nature to want to make choices for ourselves and others and that's where we get bad natured people. They make the wrong choices and extinguish the potential to be good. Humans are not inherently bad, they make wrong decisions and become bad. We all make mistakes and we don't always have other's best interests at heart but it is instilled in us as humans to look out for ourselves and others and do good in our lives.

I agree because when you help someone yopu feel good about your self and the person fells good that someone was there to help them. I know this for a fact because I am an Eagle Scout and I am always doing community service and helping others. Infact our motto is "do a good turn daily". I also joined the Laureldale Vol. Fire Co. because I like to help people and its a way for me to give back to the community. I think humans aren't inherently good or bad. We are just curious and naturaly come to gether to help oneanother in times of need.

The nature of humans is always kind of a touchy subject to say the least. I believe that you always have a choice of doing good and bad, it depends on how you feel and how you were brought up. When you're born, you don't know right from wrong. I remember when I was little how I would be on time out for pushing another kid or telling my mom I wouldn't do what she asked me to. That's how kids learn;from their parents and their surroundings. If your parents punish you, they don't do it out of hate, but out of love. They want you to learn and always make the right choices in life, or in other words, to do good. If you were brought up in a household where there wasn't any rules and you could do whatever you want, more than likely when you are faced with a decision, you would choose the bad way about doing something because to you, their wouldn't be any consequences. You could have another scenario where your life experiences or traumas could dictate the way that you are. A perfect example would be the people who abuse animals because their mom would neglate them. I agree with what Dalai Lama says because it's true that you can do a whole lot of good for yourself and others. When helping people, it makes you feel different and good about yourself. It's like your body releases endorphins and makes you feel the same way you do when you're eating chocolate; a warm fuzzy feeling. I believe that helping people and doing good will be better for you in the long run. Who knows, you may find something new about yourself by helping someone else.

This is tough, but eventually if i type enough ill get it right. I just got back from the boys soccer night game, and boy was it fun. There were a lot of people there and it seemed to me that our school spirit is going to be through the roof. Anyway, who are we do define what human nature is? I believe human nature does not exist. If it did then why is everyone on this earth so different? Why do people murder other people or commit crimes? If thats human nature than why doesn't everyone do it? I don't see cops going around killings people, I haven't realy seen my friends rob a bank. If there were human nature then why isn't everyone a straight A student? I would love for my human nature to include being an all natural athlete and an amazing student. You can define human nature to be hunting for food if the world suddenly ended and you were the only person left. You're not the only thing that ever needed to eat, and of course you'll look for food, but that's just because your hungry as rap and you need it to live. It's not human nature to kill an animal for food or dig up a plant. I'm sure that if you somehow thought about it hard enoguh you could survive souly on the air around you. Human nature does not decide the fate of our people. If that were true then everyone would be a suicide bomber and there would be no one left. Or everyone would be Bill gates and no one would be able to stick out. It should not be called human nature, more of something along the lines of human need. Becuase without certain things we need, there would be no humans.

I believe that every person has the potential to do good. I don't know a person that has not done at least one good thing. But doing good is a choice and the same goes for doing bad. Everyone has the option to choose a path they have the chance to go right or left, up or down, be good people or be bad. No one is inherently bad as far as I can tell there is good in the hearts of even the coldest of people. It is a decision that every person must make for themselves. As a child we are the most part unable to identify between good and bad but as we grow we are able to tell the difference so we make that choice sometimes without even realizing it. Most of the people I know usually choose the path of good, that's why I associate with them. I believe that it is human nature to act on our instinicts. As we grow up around others our mind begins to change about things slightly. Our instinicts change as well, sometimes in a negative and other times in a positive way. Our surroundings help to mold who we are as people even though at the end the day the decisions we make are up to us. No one is born bad, they can only turn this way due to the decisions they make. Although a person can grow up in a rough place filled with violence and issues and still grow up to be a kind hearted good person. In this case most likely the person saw the way things were where they are at and decided that there was no way that they would end up like that and made sure that they made it happen. On the other hand though a child can grow up in a loving and caring enviornment and be a horrible person. They could have ignored the good things done for them. Instead of helping others with their problems they down play others and just do cruel things.

Everyone has the ability to be good. How ever it is their choice to do so. No one is perfect so therefore is born good. I believe it's a person's choice to be good or bad. It's human nature for one to respond based on their emotions. So, if one is feeling angry they will choose to react poorly towards another, resulting in hostility to another.

The Dalai Lama is a personal favorite of mine also. His knowledge is unbelievable and I believe it is proven in his statement “It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others.” There is no cell in my mind that would disagree with his statement. Every day, many people pass away, but with a death comes a birth. There is not a gene in your body labeled “The Bad Gene” that only certain humans are born with causing them to become murders or rapists. The environment changes and molds humans as soon as they are able to comprehend simple concepts. No, I am not saying that these ‘bad’ people choose to become that way because most times they don’t even believe that what they are doing is bad. Somehow, whatever they are doing that society sees is wrong, they twist it around and see their own good in it. So who is safe to say that there really are good or bad humans? What if we all thought everything we did was good in some shape or form? I mean, no one wants to believe the things that they are doing are bad to begin with. Society has burned this image of what we should and what we should not do in our heads as soon as we could understand as a child. Sure we all know that murder and stealing is bad, but that’s only because we have been constantly told that from the get go. If we were told that those things were good, then we would believe that they were good. I know I’m a little off track, but I believe it all relates in one form or another. Over all, I don’t believe that anyone is born bad. Their environment, friends, family, and other factors make people do ‘bad’ things. But then again, these ‘bad people’ still tend to do good things also.

In my opinion I believe that every human being has the potential to do good, however there comes a time that everyone gets tempted to do wrong, and whose to blame for that except ones self?. Anyone can say" oh I’m a good person”. But in reality what makes a good person, a good person. How about, a student who does everything right but once his teacher gives him a bad grade he goes and steals from her purse. Or even a good husband, which loves and respects his wife but secretly goes behind her back then cheats on her? I think everyone has the choice to do well but chooses to do wrong instead just because it might be the easy way out, and most of the time the easy way out has long term side effects. I, for one, don’t believe people are inherently good because I know people whose parents are the nicest people in the world and wouldn’t harm a fly, but there kids are complete opposite. The kids’ may smoke, drink, steal, or do they feel is “good” for them to do, when in reality it’s really wrong. However this also depends on how humans are raised and their environment. Are they raised in a good clean environment, or are they raised in an environment in which all they see is violence and everyone doing wrong. For example, look at the children who live in Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, most of the kids are taken from early childhood and the government shows them how to use guns and that Allah says it okay to commit suicide for him. Those kids were most likely from good families until the government taught them to do wrong which they might have believe was good because it was all they knew. I don’t know but now a day, people rather do good things to benefit themselves rather than other people. But if it’s not for them or about them, people don’t really care. If something drops in the middle of the hallway, while there are 100 kids walking, no one stops to say “hey can I pick this up for you”. Or “can I help you?” Not now people will walk past pretending there’s nothing there. To me it might just depend on who you are and what your morals are.

Many people think that they may be alike with some one but they may not know that everyone on this earth is different. There isn’t anyone that thinks or lives exactly like you. So for that I would have to agree. Anyone in this world has the opportunity to do well and to help people. There no such thing as a bad person or a good person, someone can always change their ways. It doesn’t matter how you were brought up or raised you are still your own person inside and no one can tell you how to think. Yes in some case people are raised wrong and it ruins their whole lives because they will never be good. But it doesn’t mean you cant get away from that once you are raised wrong. A lot people that stop doing drugs or stop doing crimes join groups that help protect inner city kids from things like that and they help kids by raising money for a playground or just talk to the kids about the dangers in life. Now those ex criminals weren’t always nice. They were once the scum’s of the world, the terrible people you see in the ghettoes and inner city that commit crimes and do bad things for money. But they changed, they cleaned up their acts and decided to help people. They always had that potential in them they just never saw it. It is never too late to change and it is never too late to help someone. There is no such thing as a person being inherently good or inherently bad. From the moment you are born you have the opportunity to do good. You are your own person, it can’t be in your blood to do good or to do bad. In some cases peoples parents are just mean people and do no good, and they turn out good. Most of the time people do it to spite them and to just prove them wrong how there a good person. If you adopt a baby and their birth parents were mean and bad people doesn’t mean that your child will also be mean. Its just how the mind works, its an on going of good and bad and you have to choose which one are you going to do.

People have many different sides to them, but if under pressure I think their good side would come through. Therefore I agree with the Dalai Lama when he said, “It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing well, both for oneself and others”. Sometimes people are normally awful but when they are pressured they would probably try to be somewhat on the good side. For example during the great depression Franklin Delano Roosevelt was put under loads of pressure to get the whole country out of the depression. From that pressure there came so many great ideas that saved the country. He didn’t have to run for president he could have just stay home and counted his money, but he didn’t. He took a chance and made a difference. If FDR wasn’t pressured he probably would have still help the people because FDR was probably on the inherently good side. I think people are born inherently good, but where and how they were raised made them turn into a bad person. For instance, my father tells me stories of how poor kids in his country would join gangs because of the gang leaders who would persuade the poor little boys with money and all other kinds of things that we take for granted. After being part of the gangs the boys start to inherit the traits that make them a gang member. The little boys didn’t do it because they just wanted to be a thug it was because they were tricked and didn’t even know what they got themselves into. This event still happens today in my dad’s country and now there is a special jail filled with gang members of all different kinds of gangs that used to be poor little boys who were just tring to make them and their family's lifes just a little bit better.

A world with no adversity is a world hard to imagine. So yes, I agree with Dalai Lama. I think that the key to being successful is adversity. If you can overcome the obstacles that one goes through to thrive in today’s society then anything is possible. Frank A. Clark once said "If you can find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn't lead anywhere." Without adversity, I believe a person won’t make it in the real world, and if they do, they won’t be able to do things for themselves. If you think about it, every time you step forward, something happens and it feels as though you’re taking two steps back. Adversity often awakens us to what’s actually going on, like giving as a reality check that things can’t always be perfect. Adversity also tells us that maybe its time to head a different direction. So the question is essentially, is adversity here to break us or make us? I believe adversity is only here to make us stronger and essentially open our eyes to a much larger thing.
I definitely don’t believe that people are inherently bad. I don’t believe a child just comes out wanting to make a persons life a living hell. I believe that the environment a persons in plays a major role. If a child is brought up in a bad environment, and abused physically and or mentally, plays a major role. And sometimes the child might even be a serial killer. Not only a bad enviorment but also an event can happen that can completely change a person’s life and perspective on things. But then again I also believe that everyone has a good and bad side to them. So yes, no one is inheritly bad and human nature plays a big role.

Us as people, are known for having two different sides to thier emotions. We all handle our situations differently, but doing good for others and yourself is always the right rout to follow. So I do agree, with the fact that I always found a way to do something good even in the worst situatios. It realy doesnt matter how or where you was raised, because you will still make your own decisions. For example my brother was raised by a respectful family, even though we grew up around the wrong type of people outside of the family. He always made the right choices....While my brother was hanging out with his friends in Atlantic City, my brother got jumped by a group of boys that didn't like him. Insted of going back and trying to get them , he chose to go to the gym work out to release his anger. That shows that people can always find a way to do good things in a bad situation. I wouldn't say that people are inherently bad. I know that no one is perfect, niether is life. But no one would just for no reason want to steal, kill or hurt someone. It's the environment you keep and the life style you live. For the most part people are inherently good. Your going to do good things until someone convince you that doing otherwise is the better way to go to get what you want.

All over the place there are different people. People vary in every area of the world. Some of those people are good and unfortunately some are very bad. Depending on the area you find the person in, most likely tells you a little bit about them. So much factors in to what makes a human “good” or “bad”. If there are two people standing side by side, you may find that the one that is a different color is considered the good or bad. That’s just by inspection though. What if you get a little deeper into someone? Say you have a few people all different religions believing completely different ideas of life. Does that make someone good or bad because they don’t believe the same as you? Morals of someone else’s life can also make someone be considered “good” or “bad”. The way I think is nothing certain determines a good person from a bad one. Just because your dark or light skinned, and Christian or Muslim, doesn’t determine whether you are a good human or a bad one. Morals and values of someone’s’ life are taught to them starting way back in the beginning, that can’t make someone good or bad just because of a habit a human develops as a young child. I strongly agree with Dalai Lama. In order to make it through today’s world and live in the current life it take a lot more than just being there. Everyone will encounter speed bumps along the road to success and the way to be sure everyone gets to success is everyone has to be different. Now, there are times where I think that the people who are determined as good can be greater and the people in the middle could be considered great and everyone could be higher that they are currently considered. Being different is a big point to someone’s life. You want to be your own person. Being different doesn’t meant here are sonly two categories of person and those being good and bad. If the world had to be categorized into good and bad I would definitely say that whichever placement the person falls is their choice. It’s not like a baby is born and just has to be a bad one because of the day, minute, or month he/she was born. The good or bad in a human is their decision.

When born I believe that every new being, every new child is ultimately born with both good and bad nature. I don’t think a child is born just good or bad, they are taught to be one or the other. Its how a child is raised that’ll determine their nature of either good or bad. Pit bulls are known to be one of the most violent dogs that have a tendency to flip a switch and turn on their owner. Like people pit bulls need a lot of attention and care when their first born and if neglected they will be like a short fuse waiting to go off at any time. A person doesn’t inherit a good or bad gene they just learn from their surroundings and become everything that he/she has been taught. From the minute a child is born they are forced to watch and embrace everything around them, learning new things every day. A child mimics much of what his/her parents do. If the parent curses all the time the child will learn to curse. Its like monkey see, monkey do. In my opinion every person has a chance to be good but unfortunately some people get the short end of the stick and get stuck with a horrible up bringing, this doesn’t mean that every person who has had a hard up bringing will be bad but it certainly will make it harder for that child to potentially be good. The act of teaching doesn’t require a person to be an actual “teacher,” every parent, sister, or brother could be a teacher to a newborn and if taught correctly with the right amount of tender love and care that child will continue on in life respecting others and will eventually become and be good child. So are people inherently good or inherently bad? It’s a possibility that people could inherit a good or bad nature, but personally I believe people become one or the other because of what their taught and how their raised.

I suppose I can agree with this quote, on certain conditions of course. It is impossible to say that every single person on the face of this planet possesses the potential to do good for others, because to be honest some human beings are just plain hateful of everything. However, for now I shall make the small percentage of the vile souls exempt from my argument and focus on the not so evil people. Most people on a daily basis, unless they are some kind of saint or other type of a pure being, will worry about their own needs first as it is simply our nature of being. Usually the way they affect others is not a main concern and people may be pushed aside and/or have their feelings hurt and this is something that can be seen on an everyday basis. However! I believe that in dire times most people have the capacity to do something good, and during this dreadful time, not only will they focus on doing good for themselves but instead they can accomplish the task doing good for others. In the end good shall prevail, and it’s by the people that live in this world who will make this statement true when the time comes for them to take a stand and overcome a problem.
At birth I really do believe that people, by nature, are good. Since nothing has dampened their soul or soured their mind-set upon coming to be, they really can’t be immoral. Can they? At least this is something I would truly love to believe, because I don’t really know and no one else truly knows due to the fact that we can’t read the minds of newborn infants. As far as going back to what their nature is, well like I said, people will worry about themselves first and others second. Well, maybe except for parents because I know they usually love their kids more than anything in the universe. Also, if given the chance, most will take the easy way out just because the standards of society today have become lower which is really sad in a way. This isn’t to say that there aren’t determined people out there willing to always go above and beyond, but just as a sum most would like to take the painless route.

I agree with His Holiness, Dalai Lama. Without the hardships of adversity no one will realize the greater good inside of themselves. Without the struggles people face no one will ever need to push their selves to come out on top. For example, before September 11th no one cared for anyone they were not personally attached to. After 9/11 everyone was considered family. People who once hated each other became closer. Everyone stood up for their home land and came together as one for the good of their country. If 9/11 would not have happened America probably would not know how to respond to such a misfortunate event. The event of a strong catastrophe is a life changing event. People will do one of two things. They will either fold and send their life downhill, or fight back and overcome the situation to end up on top. Those who fold end up seeing life as a completely bad experience and will most likely be badly affected for the rest of their life. Those who overcome the adversity has experience and will know how to react the next time around.
I think people are born and neutral and their personality is molded through the events in their life. The Bible teaches that every man is born in sin. Therefore no one is born a good person. That person must grow up and learn good for themselves. The Bible quotes, “Every human being on this earth is born with a tragedy, and it isn't original sin. He's born with the tragedy that he has to grow up...a lot of people don't have the courage to do it.” This is simply saying everyone must grow up and learn to do good, but not everyone has the ability to do so. There are people that will find a path in the road of life to learn to do good. Others are cowards in the face of reality. People do not want to hear the truth, and they are scared to grow up and face life. Once one faces the decision to do what is right and face the adversity to do good they are leading themselves onto a positive road. Basically what I am saying is that no one is born good or bad. They are sort of born in a lack of the word ignorant. They are ignorant of life.

It's human nature to develop every emotion. In my eyes good and bad are one emotion that decided to react or not. Personally, I believe that people have, and will always have, the potential to do good. Most people react on these emotions and allow themselves to endure in the please of assisting others. While others tend to be afraid of the opposite reaction. Those who choose to do good, are given the responsibility of reaching out to people who are scared and helping them grow out of there cocoon.
The environment we grow up in, unfortunately, sometime effects the way we are. Some children grow up in lovely homes, where they are taught respect and courtesy. Then there are those who grow up in a terrible environment and aren't granted the proper role models, to sufficiently determine what is good. Personally, I was a rare one of that matter. I grew up in an all around unstable home, but used that to my advantage. I saw what other people were doing and saying around me, and immediately knew what I wanted to become as a person, the opposite. With this knowledge at a very young age, I was able to teach myself, not always what to do, but what not to do. Therefore, I don't take pity on the people who blame there childhood for what kind of person they've become. Although I do find myself very fortunate to realize what responsibilities come with maturity.
I don't believe that people inherit good and bad, just that they have good and bad role models growing up. When a child is born they're absolutely clueless. They can only know up to what you teach them, up to the age when they are able to think on there own. Just because a parent is a bad person, doesn't meant hat their child will become bad also. Each child is there own person. Even if they do grow up a bad person, it is then their decision to change or not. No one can change them, for it is a self decision that can only be made by that person.
Some times people aren't sure ways to apply it. Some don't understand that it could be as simple as picking up a dropped paper, or making sure all your homework is complete. Everybody has the potential to do good for themselves, as well as others. It's a certain level of maturity that can be reached when one allows them self to turn into a butterfly.

Are people inherently good, or inherently bad? I think all people have potential to do good or bad. It depends on the person and what path they are going to choose. Also, depending on how that persons mind works, will affect the choice. As a new born you don’t have the concept of good or bad but after years of maturing I think most humans know what is right or wrong. Evil people, I think had to live through some kind of incident that altered there mind to think or view life from an evil prospective. Then again you do hear stories of people seeing something so repulsive and still they turned out to be a normal person. I think the sociality environment in which you live may have effect your r mind and thoughts. What you are surrounded by and more important who you are surrounded by, is what you tend to morph into and copy. I do feel that there are some evil people out there that like to see others suffer for there own pleasure. Overall I think it’s a choice to pick right or wrong. It’s your life and how you react to certain situations that life brings to you is your choice. You will never be able to control how others act or what they choose to say, but it is always in your power, your choice to choose your reaction to any given action. It may not be fair but life isn’t fair and we have to take responsibility for all are actions no matter what outcome it is. It’s hard to say that there is a nature of humans. Yes humans all have some things in common but when you break humans down to there core there not very different. . Everyone has an opinion and free will to do what they want and make there own decisions. Think how many cultures there are in the world and different morals that people live by. I can’t see how you can put all humans together and make a definition that fits all of them that represents the nature of humans.

The numbers of stars in space are innumerable unknown just as the number of people in this world, but even more innumerable then the people are their thoughts. In one day a single human being can have thousands of thoughts and when you times that by the unknown number of humans past, present, and future the number of thoughts become almost infinite. So what is my point, you may wonder well since there are so many people and they are always thinking it becomes apparent that no two human beings can think alike. All are taught what right is and what wrong is, but what is right to one may be wrong to another. So I don’t doubt that humans have potential to do well But it comes down to the person and there thoughts. There thoughts would then have to be contrived from what they have once seen, heard, learned, or experienced. With humans no one tells them what to be afraid of, or tells you how to react to anything it’s your thoughts that impulse your body to do what, at what ever specific moment, seems right. So especially in times of adversity we have seen people do great things like firefighters saving people from fires, soldiers being on the front line, and police officers putting their lives on the line. So I agree that in the face of adversity there lies or exists the potential to do good so long as your mind or thoughts can impulse you.
All beings have good within them, and forgive me whoever does not agree and may be offended by my entry, as we were according to my belief in the image of God and as God is good we too must be good, But it does not mean we are like God because the difference is that he is pure and righteous and ever since Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden and ate from the forbidden fruit all mankind has been cursed with original sin. Henceforth giving us freewill, for God did not dwell with them because sin separated them. So we were made for greatness but are inherently bad and disobedient. So all being have something called freewill which ultimately allows you to decide for yourself , having a heart after good but a sinful nature which call to you tempting you to bad. Your flesh by nature craves what can harm you most. That is where the saying you are your own worst enemy comes from. For example your body craves greasy, oily, sugary, foods that clog your arteries, someone gets hurt you cant seem to turn your head it is because your human nature take pleasure in pain. Being bad is being weak and giving in to the flesh when your inner being ,or heart tells you it is not right. Being bad is when you hush your conscious to please your flesh or human interests. So further I repeat people are inherently but were made for greatness.

I agree with the Dalai Lama and His Holiness. The reason is because everyone has the potential to do good. That also means they have the potential to do bad. The baby doesn’t come out wanting to pick flower nor does it come out wanting to make peoples life a living hell. It’s not only up 2 god but it’s up to the person to fulfill his or her own destiny. People aren’t inherently good nor are they aren’t inherently bad. They are like a blank slate or a clean piece of paper. It is up to the parent if the baby gets an A or an F. The child’s behavior doesn’t come naturally it is taught. The factors that make the child the way they are is the way they are raised and were the child lives. The person or child’s personality develops as it grows up will determine if it is good or bad. Those factors make the child who they are. A person observes the people around it and will model what they see. Anybody can do well. A person can be steered in the right way but still can make bad decisions that can ruin that person’s life. It is only up to that person to choose. It is up to that person to react and decide what he or she wants to do. It is human nature too makes bad decisions but it takes a good person to correct those mistakes. It doesn’t make you a bad person if you make one bad choice after another. You know when a person is good or bad. An example of good is when you see someone laying on the side of the road and you stop and call for help and see if they are okay. An example of bad is when you steal a person’s identity to better your own life. You might feel good but your ruin another person’s life.

to tell you the truth i believe that every one is good, every one is good because i dont believe some one would be born bad, because god made you and i dont think he would make an evil baby. u might be raised bad if you live in a household that treats you wrong and you have bigger brothers and sisters that has been in jail or is doin bad stuff. i think also think that anyone can change from bad to good because no one is really evil, everybody has a good side and i know for sure that everyone has a heart and if u have a heart i know u have to care or love somthing, and that somthing whatever it is can change u from bad to good. some one could have killed 50 people and can still change, it might take time but eventually they will change. i know everybody has there freewill and they can do what ever they want but i do believe that everyone has good in their heart unless they are a machine. you cant be born bad because when your born thats when you first see light and thats when everything is new and you dont know nothing babies cant just be bad no, i think that it is not possible for a baby to be born bad. even though you are in a different race you still wont be bad or evil because me are all humans. i also belive that animals are not evil or bad, it how you treat them, trained them, or if they are wild animals, thats it everyone has good in there heart and i dont care what other people say or believe. God dont make ugly babies and when i say ugly i dont mean your image i mean evil. if you can really answer this question that i m about to ask you, you might change my mind but i doubt that,,,,,,,, why would god make an evil baby??? thats how iam gonna end it.

I can neither completely agree nor disagree with Dalai Lama. People are different and have many sides to being that everyone is brought up differently. To me, no one is inherently good or bad. A lot of what you are is how you have been raised and what you have been through. People aren’t born good or bad. It’s the decisions they make and the paths they choose to follow. Yes, everyone has the potential to do good but I don’t think everyone would use that potential given a certain situation. For example, if you were living in some kind of 3rd world country with no security or government how long do you think you would survive? Thanks to 12th period Military History I know the answer to this question! Survival would be extremely hard. Basically it would be survival of the fittest. Just put it this way. The life expectancy wouldn’t be anywhere to what it is today. How does that relate? Well, that shows that people also have the potential to do bad. Even though I do not completely agree nor disagree this next story has me leaning a little more towards the “Agree” side. Once again in Military history (thanks Mr. Glenn!) we started watching this video on radical terrorism today. In the first couple minutes it tells the story of a born and raised terrorist who becomes good. This guy grew up being taught to be a terrorist. Not only was he taught but he even killed many people. But by the time he was 45 years old he realized how wrong all he was doing was. He completely transformed and is an anti-terrorist who even talked to US government agencies explaining himself. In my opinion that shows how people could be inherently or have the potential to do good. After all this I am and will most likely remain undecided until someone out there proves Dalai Lama’s statement true or false.

“It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing well, both for oneself and others.”

Basically, this quote states that even amongst the most troubling of time, that there is always a positive. There is always a way to handle the most dire situations and to come out positively in the end. Quite simply, this means that any issue can be conquered and doing so will aid both you and the people around you.

However, does this honestly apply? Is every challenge out there truly an experience with which we can learn from and rise above? Some may believe that this positive outlook is the way to go, but I don’t agree. These words, though encouraging, produce a sort of false hope that I can’t find myself following. Many of the issues out there can’t just be solved, no matter how much we hope they can be. Sometimes, the only result that can come from it all is a tragic ending. Though it is true that in the end we can get something from such a depressing scene, but even then I don’t believe the lesson is worth learning. A stubborn outlook perhaps, but the value of it all must be questioned. Is the adversity truly worth going through in order to achieve something?

At the same time, I believe it is these trials that make us who we are. How we face each challenge helps to define us as people. I believe that all people start off as blank slates and overtime, they develop into “themselves.” In our younger age, we are curious little sponges. We suck up everything we see and analysis it accordingly. Overtime, it becomes one of the many factors that make up who we are when we are older. In a sense, this is where the term “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” originates from. We get most of our own traits by watching and copying our parental units. Even when trying to resist the passed on trait, it tends to follow anyway because of how you were raised. The challenges and the world around virtually make you, you in the end.

Although each and every day there are horrible things going on throughout the world, people still do incredibly nice things. So, I would have to completely agree with the quote by Dalai Lama. I think people who have the least, or don’t have a lot of good in their life, sometimes are the ones that want to do most. If people who are surrounded by bad and know what it’s like to be affected directly, why would they want to hurt someone else? But, I can’t speak for every person. Everyone is different with different experiences. There is still bad everywhere and it will never change. But, I do know there are people out there who are still good. For example, if a child was born into a family where they were abused, or neglected, that doesn’t mean they are going to grow up and do the same to their children. There probably are people who will do that, but everyone is different once again. That child could grow up and turn out to be very successful, and do whatever they can to help children like they once were.
Are people naturally good, or bad? I think they are good. When a baby is born, you have to care for him/her, and give them everything it need. But, if you don’t, you’ll have a cranky, moody baby. It all depends on how they are raised. So, if you care for your child correctly, they’ll probably turn out to be a good person. If you don’t, they’ll maybe have many problems later in life. (But from what I said above, that might not be always true. People who have the least, sometimes want to do the most remember? But this is just an example.) Anyway, just caring correctly for your child won’t definitely make them a good person when they become an adult. Personally, I think every person’s personality is altered by the attitudes of other’s around them. If you grow up in a perfect family, then hang out with the wrong crowd, you could end up a criminal. So, it all matters by your personal choice. If you weren’t educated enough to care about wrong from right, or you just don’t care, then you’ll probably do wrong in your life. It’s a personal choice if you want to be good or bad.

Everyone is given a beautiful life, but it’s your decision what you choose to do with it. Everyone has a shot to be successful and also to help others. There is also another option, failure. Failure is to be or become deficient or lacking. There are a select few people in this world who become successful without dedication and drive. Everyone has equal potential to do good for themselves and for others it’s just a matter of dedicating yourself. I try to do as much as I can for myself and others. I tend to help others before myself. Today I babysat from the second I got out of school and look at me now I am typing this blog at 11:15 at night. Helping people doesn’t just help the other person but it builds your character. Helping can go from your family/friends, extracurricular activities, volunteering, or yourself. I am a member of Student council and all it is pretty much is volunteering. Every year there is a 21 Down Dance for people in which have Down Syndrome and I feel those whole three hours at the dance change them for life. If you could only see the look in their face and hear the joy in their laugh you two would start volunteering more of your time. Some people go all their lives getting things given to them, but is that right? Sure, it would be nice not having to work for anything but where does that bring you? You could never survive in the real world alone without learning basic survival skills such as working, cleaning, and maybe even budgeting. By accepting things you have not worked for your only hurting yourself. No matter the style, size, or race of a person we are all sent here to make something of yourself and work for it minus the people who physically can’t which is a sin. We people who are healthy should be helping those who cannot with specific disabilities. Life is not about always being better then the person next to you it is to be successful, and learn who you truly are. Maybe you go in for a job and you didn’t like it what do you do stop working cause you got shot down once. No you have to go out until you find the job you want. There is no reason you should throw your life away and become a failure. Life is beautiful and is constantly throwing options at people. People need to realize you need to help yourself before you can help someone else, but at the same time helping people is an excellent thing. If the world worked together its obvious the world would run smoother. But a huge problem is so many people give up and don’t help themselves. No matter the person we all have potential to be good or bad, remember you have the choice.

I completely agree with the wise words of the Dalai Lama. Although people have great potential to do good, each and every person also has the potential to do bad. Of course with every person its different depending on how he or she are raised and the environment they are in introduced to. Therefore I do not believe that it can be predetermined or that a human can inherently be bad or good. Not only does the way in which the child is raised or where the child is raised but it is also based on what the kid is exposed to. For example a kid who has been home schooled his whole life and has over protective parents will not be so likely to be exposed to the same situations or experiences that a kid raised in New York city that attends a public school and has a single mom who works all day. The two will simply have completely different experiences and depending on how he or she deals with these situations will determine their potential to do good or bad.

Everyone has a diferent impact on how they are. The things that makes up their personality is held not only to them. It lies on both them and the people who raised them. Depending on the type of house hold they were raised in this presents the core to their morality. Not only how they are raised is responsible. The way they choose to live their lives takes the greatest impact. Any one who was raised in a poor house hold could become a rich sucsessfull person. Yes it will be alot harder for them than it would for some one who has come from a house hold. Any one person will be able to what ever it is that they choose. Also they can be however they want to be. It all depends on if they want to try as hard as needed to accomplish their goals. People aren't just a product of their house hold but a product of themselves. ps miss bunje please send me ur email adress this was late due to me being in the hospital with a broken foot.

KELSO'S CONTINUATION....

If a person is happy and feeling like they're on the top of the world they will treat themselves and others wih respect and joy. Being good or bad has nothing to do with you bieng born like that, it's all the positive and negative reinforcements that surround you and your life. When someone is surrounded by positive energy they have and receive the potential to do good and continue to do good, until someone or something makes them become pessimistic. I believe every good and bad reaction is related to and tied to emotions when a person has been infected by their peers or their natural surroundings problems. Who wouldnt't be effected by another's energy? It happens everyday to peole and never realize it. To me all this being inherently good or bad is bull to me because you choose what you want to do and what path you want to take. No one akes the decision for you. It's your choice what you want to do with what curve balls life throws at you.

kyle w said...

Doing good is always the right thing to do, but some people do good because it is easy. And other people will do bad because it is easy. A person that is in a bad situation and still manages to do good is an amazing thing. It's one thing to do good when it is easy and another to do good when it is hard. I think a person is not good or bad at birth, but they are raised to be good or bad, sometimes not intentionally. A child that is born into a bad household will turn out bad because they have never known anything good. Sometimes a child can be born and raised good, but somewhere along their life they can be corrupted and turned bad. My cousin is an example because he grew up in a nice household and was a really nice person. At sometime he was corrupted by drugs and he was sent to jail. So people are not inherently good or bad, but it is their choices that make them who they are.

Dalai Lama has probably got to be one of the cleverest men brought to this planet. His quote is based on balance and truth. Most of us hopefully have a conscious and have good intentions, but good intentions don’t uphold unless you act upon it. Although, selfish as this may seem, if you don’t look out for yourself first, you will never be able to sincerely look out for another. If you don’t take care of yourself physically, emotionally, sexually, etc. depending on another person may lead to disappointments. If you do take care of yourself, not only will you be a lot healthier but people would respect your words more and see that, “Oh, if he/she can do it then I can do it too!” And it’s never a bad thing to do something good for other people, there’s a certain extent to everything though. Sometimes, there are those “I wish I could…” thoughts such as your mother having cancer and you wanting to take that away from her and suffer yourself. That’s nice and all but sadly, we must bare reality. Expect the worst, hope for the best is all we can really do because some consequences we are unable to control. In general, human nature itself is very contradicting and it’s hard to explain but we’re all human and have flaws and we also tend to do ‘wrong’ more than occasionally, which is hopefully never intentional. The truth is, a person’s mentality is made based on their foundation – The basis of right or wrong, hypocrisy and ignorance and how they view it are based on how they were raised and brought up. A person, who had been raped, done massive drugs, and had been beat, is obviously not going to see any part of the world as anything miraculously amazing vs. a person who has gotten everything handed to them on a silver platter who hopefully appreciates everything that they have who may not think everything they have is enough or not be so grateful. So specifically speaking, the nature of humans is all sorts of different nowadays and if ‘properly guided’ day by day, according to our society, we’ll “make a difference” and do well in life. To care and do well for oneself and others is a lifelong goal, to find your nirvana and your balance. You can never be too much of one thing because then, your aura would just be whack. Nobody would want that, now would they?

I would have to agree with the Dalai Lama on this one. Sure people who live through the good times and the bad have potential for doing well, but those who are struggling have the most potential. Those who are more fortunate than others tend to not worry about much other than them. They concern themselves on keeping the lives simple and easy instead of trying to help those less fortunate. Then those who are living on the streets and have not been very successful are always working on helping themselves and others. They know how bad life is for those poorer people and they don’t want anyone else to have to live like they do. Living that lifestyle gives those people a completely different mind set than most others. They feel like the only thing they could do is try to improve themselves and everything around them. Since a lot of those people don’t have much helping others gives them a feeling of accomplishment. Also those people realize that bringing bad on to others will not make their lives any easier or any better. I feel that some people can be inherently good. Inheritance is not everything. If someone has kind giving parents that does not always mean they will come out like them. If that person grows up with a group of friends who are the complete opposite of the parents, they have a tendency to lean towards the way their friends act. Most of the time, good comes front environment and not from inheritance. This is not always true though. You can have someone who grows up in a ghetto or a lower class environment with many people who do not have any good tendency’s and that person can still be a great person who is nothing like the majority of his environment. Human nature is to better itself before anything else. People are wired to help themselves and to worry about themselves before others. This doesn’t pertain to everyone though. Some people tend to not care about themselves at all and just work on helping his or her fellow man. No matter what the human nature is people will always have a tendency of doing good.

People choose their outcome. I know personally people who have come from a background that isn’t too...legal, and have thought that they had to follow that road. Just because you come from a certain ethnic group or a criminal history family doesn’t mean that you have to follow them. I also have personally met people whom have come from a good background and gone bad, and also a bad background and turned out good. Those who have come from a bad background and have become successful have ALL of my respect and everything that comes with it. With that said, I agree, people do not need to be someone just because they’re father was someone (for example). You choose who you are going to be in life, nothing more or less. The nature of humans and even if my friends were to read this would say I’m wrong but I AM NOT. Liberty and Justice FOR ALL is in our pledge, you can get away from whatever you are in if you don’t want to be there. This means if you are in any sort of wrong place or bad place you have the right to say you want to get out, just because your friends or family say you should stay doesn’t mean you have to. You have rights; you are not inherently good or inherently bad. Things like this make me overly upset because people all around the world commit suicide, break things, become upset, stress, and even murder just because they think that they’re in some sort of trouble. You would not be in that trouble in the 1st place if you made the right choice. One wrong choice could determine the rest of your life so they must be good ones. You may say 'what about the people who are taught to believe a certain way'. I say that is they're choice to learn about it, if they are forced to do something wrong, they could quickly learn that what they’re doing is wrong, but they CHOOSE to do it anyway. You are what you are; your choices are your choices.

I feel that people are naturally bad. I know that this is a very negative approach to life but I think that this is so true. If human nature wasn't to hurt and destroy than we wouldn't have any wars or anything of that nature. But you see us doing it now waging war with a country that by itself would be waging war on itself. Why is it that we must do so much damage not only to our enemies but also to ourselves? Not only are we killing the soldiers of other countries but losing our own in the process. Young men and women who had their whole lives ahead of them. They could have been CEOs or aspiring artist, or even English teachers. That we will never know. I write this knowing the truth, but even though I write this I feel awkward because I know that my future is to be a soldier and there is nothing in this world that is going to stop me. So although I know that it’s wrong I know that it is what I want to do with my life. So I guess that you can use me as an example. Although this is our nature as humans to do these terrible things, but we can break free from this. The way to be though is not on either side of the spectrum. You don’t want to be hard core hippie or marine corps classic “I want a kill”. While the world isn’t perfect there are something that we’ve gotten right and that is that we have given all these people no matter what type of person they are all the same freedoms. And although some people don’t take heed of the laws and break them. They will take the punishment that is given to them because of the laws they broke.

I completely agree with this statement. The potential for doing good can be found in everyone. This potential isn’t always reached though. I believe that it all depends on the environment that someone is raised in. If they have inner needs that aren’t met the goodness in them may never be found because they are too busy trying to please their needs. Everyone needs attention and love while they mature and some people just don’t get that, those people tend to have a dominantly bad side to them. I also think that everyone has the power to do bad no matter how good they seem. If provoked to a certain extent any “angel” can do horrible things. I think this principal also applies to bad people. If a generally bad person is psychologically reached, they have the power to do good and change.
Along with the environment people are raised in, there are always other variable that could effect whether someone is good or bad such as people they meet and experiences they have. A genuinely good person could start following the wrong crowd and start doing bad deeds or get into something way over their head such as drugs, crime, or even a cult of some sort. A person with a rough upbringing can just as well find people that are genuinely good and they can follow their lead and pursue a life of good and get involved in volunteering to help others better themselves. A life changing experience such as an accident that puts someone close to death or just a powerful speech can also make people realize that doing bad isn’t worth anything and that doing good with positively effects them as well as the world in general. People who come close to death tend to think a lot more about life in general and they realize that it is too short for them to be negatively affecting the world. They see that helping others will benefit themselves as well because they can live a guilt-free life.
All people have a good side as well as a bad side to them. The potential for both is always there. It depends on personal choices based on outer influences that depends whether a person is good or bad.

I agree with Dalai Lama when he says "It is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others." There is a great deal of potential for anyone to do good for his or herself and also for others. some people jsut need to channel in on it. also some people just have good in them and others are just bad people. Sometimes it just takes a little more effort for some people to be good. some people are just kind and nice things come out all the time, but there are the people that have to stop and think if they are doing the right thing. also there are the people that cannot help it. they are mean and dont care what others do or how they feel. they could have came from a bad home or enviorment that caused them to be bad. being bad was not there choice it was just what they were used to being raised around. you can look at oakcrest as an example. there are the kids that walk down the hall and say excuse me and are nice, then there are the others that just push there way threw and dont care who they bump into. that does not really make them bad, but its also not making them a good person. along with all this is the question are humans inherently good or bad. i would have to say that they are more along the lines of bad. when you are a young child your parents are always correcting you and punishing you if you do something wrong. so therefore you have to be taught to be a good person. if it was not for being taught to be nice or good then everyone would just do what they wanted to and it would most likely be bad. if you look back in time people started out haveing to survive on there own. this is goin to bring bad habbits that would later on have to be corrected.

personally i think that your inherent good or bad behavior by your generation but some people are taught good behavior that is bad behavior. For example i think the child or children that grow up in a kkk household are taught to hate african americans and they have no way of exscaping it. So they grow up knowing nothing different and from my understanding majority of them get home schooled which give them no opporturnity to know different. And on the other hand for the inherented behavior situation i believe that say for an example anger i believe that it can be passed down from geeration to generation. as well i think that behavior can come from watching what everyone else does and what just feels natural but not being taught like i just said but by copying.

I would have to agree, but disagree. When you are born into this world, everyone seems to say that you are a good person and that you will not do harm to yourself or to others around you. No one in this world is the same as the person next to you. Everyone has their own ideas, feelings, concerns, and dreams they want to achieve. When you are growing up the only people you look up to are your parents. Your parents are the ones who will teach you everything. If the kids parents are violent and are cursing all the time, there is a possibility that, that person will end up the same. There is no gene in your DNA that says “good person” or “bad person.” You yourself makes you a good or bad person. It all depends on your surroundings as a child. Since kids no nothing of life they follow what their parents do. If you were to discipline your child in a good healthy way your child will follow in your foot steps. In my opinion everyone in this world has a chance to be good but unfortunately due to your surrounding in the past may cause you from becoming a good person. If that person truly wanted to change their environment and get away from all the bad stuff, they will start by choosing who is going to be a positive or negative person in their life. Every person is here to make mistakes and those mistakes can either make you or break you. It all depends on your personality, environment, and past. Some people choose to be cowards and don’t deal with their mistakes at all. They just leave them how that are and watch them get worse and worse each and every time. Those are the people don’t like to hear the truth from others and who only think they are right about anything and everything. They are the ones who are hurting themselves and who need to grow and face reality. So I think that you neither are born good or bad into this world. If you choose to live your life with only your opinions and no one else’s you wont succeed to far in life until you realize all your mistakes.

For example a kid who has been home schooled his whole life and has over protective parents will not be so likely to be exposed to the same situations or experiences that a kid raised in a big city that attends a public school and has a single mom who works all day and doesn’t have time to watch her kid. The two will simply have completely different experiences and depending on how he or she deals with these situations will determine their potential to do good or bad. Although there are some cases that are completely unpredictable. Sometimes there is just that “black sheep” in the family, a kid who can have the perfect life and just turn out bad. And of course there is the opposite scenario where a kid could have the crappiest life imaginable yet he or she makes something of themselves. So all in all, at the end of the story, it is impossible for a person to be born bad or good it is simply unpredictable

I would definity find it safe to say that everyone is born inherently good. It more of all the experince they're faced with thoughout their life that makes them into an badperson. For instance take any disobedient kid in oakcrest, or anywhere infact and just get to know them, and than you would really see that there only who they are because of there surrounds and there family.
